I’ll be highlighting our primary bedroom in this post. If you’re looking for neutral bedroom ideas you’ve come to the right spot! This master bedroom has been elevated to the next level with the addition of earthy accents.
The neutral colors serve as a blank canvas that allows the earthy tones of the green velvet curtains and board and batten to shine, creating a warm and inviting space. The combination of the neutral palette with earthy accents provides a relaxing and grounding atmosphere, making it the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
From the soft texture of the curtains to the geometric pattern of the board and batten, every detail in this room has been thoughtfully chosen to create a harmonious and stylish space. Starting with neutral tones and natural elements is a great way to ensure a timeless look. Next you can add in eye-catching accent pieces to compliment your neutral scheme.
The primary bedroom was the first room is the house we updated. Some may stick to rooms that visitors see most, but our approach was quite the opposite. It was important to use to have an oasis and room to start and end our day in that reflected us.
Whether you’re a fan of neutral interiors or just looking for a way to incorporate earthy accents into your home, this neutral bedroom with earthy accents is a must-see.

Style & Color Scheme
As for design… you could probably categorize my style as transitional for this bedroom. I’m a big fan of a neutral base to work around so it’s easy to change out small details as I please.
I went for a neutral bedroom design with accents of deep earthy colors. Neutral colored rooms really bring in a sense of peace and a calming effect. According to Room Color Psychology green is the most restful color. It is thought to increase fertility (Cue deer in headlight eyes! Maybe one day this will be helpful, but not the goal for now). Luckily green offers a lot other great bedroom qualities if you aren’t in the market for rug rats… like calming effects and stress relief. Could there be a better bedroom color combo?

Flooring
We started by removing all the old carpet and installing LVP – Coretech Waddington Oak.
Paint Colors
To add some texture and visual interest to the neutral primary bedroom space I added board and batten. When it comes to a neutral space layers and textures are key to maintaining interest. We used the color Swiss Coffee by Behr for the upper half of the wall color and Sculptor Clay for the lower half. The creamy white walls against the warm neutral taupe really are perfect for a transitional bedroom.
Neutral Bedroom Rug
To complete the neutral base of the bedroom I purchased this Silver Fringed Medallion Area Rug. Even though it has “silver” in the name, it’s full of beautiful and versatile warm hues. The subtle pattern adds just enough interest to the room without being distracting.
Bed & Bedding
Our upholstered bed frame is the Tilly Upholstery Low Profile Bed from Wayfair in the color Zuma White. I love how Wayfair describes it as an “understates design with a winged headboard to round out the look with a dash of distinction.” Ultimately, I think this sums up the style I was going for in this room. We completed the neutral basics with a Brooklinen Luxe Duvet Cover in Solid White
Throw Pillows
Now for more dashes of distinction for incorporating those earthy neutral shades I was after…. To add some depth and patterned interest to the space I threw in 2 Estelle Dark Brown Floral Pillow Covers by Danielle Oakey and one Charles Black Stripe Pillow Cover. Solid brown pillow is a fantastic, very affordable filler pillow. Mixing up different patterns in your throw pillows in a great way to break up some of the flatness, add pops of color and texture to create a beautiful neutral color palette.
Curtains, Rods & Roman Shades
Now for my favorite part of this whole bedroom… the green velvet curtains! I loved the idea of bringing in not only the pop of color and texture, but a little sophistication to a fairly understated space.
These MULEE Velvet Curtain in Olive Green were the perfect West Elm worn velvet curtain dupe. They are great black out options for the price point. As a late evening worker these are ESSENTIAL! I’m sooo impressed with how luxurious they feel and look and the black out capabilities.
You can see in my window treatment selections, blinds and curtains are another opportunity to bring in different textures and accent colors for a gorgeous bedroom.
Bamboo Roman Shades are perfect for a little day-time privacy while still allowing in an abundance of light. I love how they are still neutral but add texture with the natural fibers.
Drapery Window Curtain Rod offer a simple, timeless touch that doesn’t overwhelm the rest of the window treatment.
Wood Nightstands
I purchased my side table off MarketPlace for $200/table. I cleaned up with some simple techniques I talk about over in my Refreshing Wooden Furniture post. No luck finding something similar on your local MarketPlace, estate sales or thrift shops? Here are a few new options with a similar look and. beautiful wood tones.
Night Stands
I purchased mine off MarketPlace for $200/table. I cleaned up with some simple techniques I talk about over in my Refreshing Wooden Furniture post. No luck finding something similar on your local MarketPlace, estate sales or thrift shops? Here are a few new options with a similar look:
Robyn 3 Drawer Nightstand by Mistana
Roma Nightstand from Birch Lane
Keane Driftwood Charging Nightstand by Crate & Barrel
Lamp
For about $10 I created this DIY ceramic lamp dupe. (DIY ceramic lamp post coming soon…)
Bench
Crown Mark Jeremiah Black Bench is the perfect little seating area for our transitional bedroom. The pop of black against the taupe board and batten gives the room some depth.
Mirror
With all the liner aspects of this room – the board and batten, the curtains and shades, the boxy night stands – I wanted a little shape interest so I went with this rounded golden mirror for some gold accents. Compared to many other floor mirror its size, this one was very affordable.
Art Above Bed
This wall art is another fun DIY dupe. I share all the details of this art in my Custom Vintage Art on Budget post. It cost me about $35 in total.
Where is your dresser?
Maybe this is odd, but we don’t have a dresser in our bedroom! (gasp!) Yes, we still have clothes. We aren’t nudist, people. Our primary bedroom is a little tight for a king bed and a dresser. So instead of cramming furniture into the space, we designed our closet in a way that we wouldn’t have to have a dresser. It’s, honestly, been working out well! I wish I could say it also leads to less laundry around the room, but that’s not the case. Check out our Primary Closet Makeover for more details on this design.
In summary, I hope you either found a source you were looking for or are now inspired to create a neutral oasis for yourself! I firmly believe that the home decor you surround yourself with has a big impact on your mood. The best way to create personal spaces we’ll love for a long time is to really focus on how you want your room to make you feel. For me, a natural color scheme with earth tones was the easiest way to create a peaceful bedroom. Thanks for reading.
