Updating your door knobs is an easy way to add character and style to your home. This often overlooked detail can have huge impacts on your space. Think of door knobs as a room’s first impression. Sure, furniture, paint colors and decor make of the heart of the room, but the first impression starts at the turn of a handle.
Nothing will age your home faster than outdated, builder grade knobs. While some of these knobs may have been trendy at the time, in my humble opinion, they quickly date your home to that time-period.
Our home was built in 2002 leaving all its original, blah details as a constant reminder. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at how you can update your door knobs with high-quality, stylish hardware from Nostalgic Warehouse.

You may recall a few months back I spray painted the home’s original door knobs black. While this was an instant, budget friendly upgrade, it wasn’t a long-term solution. After about 6 months the spray paint started to wear away so it was time for something a little more intentional and permanent.
One thing I knew I wanted from my door hardware was character and quality. Perhaps my love of classic interior details came from growing up in a home built in 1902 with brass long-plates, actual escutcheons and crystal knobs.
I came across Nostalgic Warehouse and immediately fell in love with their attention to the most classic of details. Their vintage inspired hardware brings me back to my childhood home and dare I say it… feels nostalgic.
For all of the hallway and bedroom knobs I went with their Prairie Long Plate with New York knob. The Praire Long Plate is not quite a perfect rectangle, but I loved how the slight curves added a little interest to my 6 paneled doors and very geometric board and batten design. The timeless bronze finish contrasted the taupe doors perfectly.
For the black painted bifold laundry doors in our hallway, however, I wanted something fun and contrasting. While crystal knobs may have been a bit too glam in my more transitional style home, I was able to sneak them in more subtly by adding dummies knobs to our bifold laundry doors.
I selected their Classic Rosette with Oval Fluted Crystal Knob in Antique Brass. The transformation of painting the doors black and adding actual knobs was dramatic!
Whether you’re into an intricate traditional long-plate or sleek modern rosette style, Nostalgic Warehouse has every type of door knob or handle you could possibly desire. I especially love that you can mix different knob or handle styles with your choice of plate designs to get a truly customized look.
In conclusion, updating your door knobs is a way to add instant style and character to your home. By choosing high-quality hardware like that from Nostalgic Warehouse, you can be sure that your new knobs will last for years to come both in their solid-forged brass craftsmanship and their timeless design.
