Pink Painted Armoire

pink painted armoire with gold hardware. staged with a pink bicycle, linens and flowers. paint color Mesa Red by PPG. spring painted furniture ideas

This armoire was previously an old chippendale style cherry piece, but in really good condition. My client brought me this piece requesting a bold pink coat of paint. It was my first time painting anything pink so I was more than happy to take on this DIY project. If you know anything about refinishing old furniture pieces, however, you know this big Bertha (who was about 8 ft wall) was a lot of work. Labor of love, I like to call it.

Paint Color:

Mesa Red by PPG colored matched in Benjamin Moore Advance. I love using Advance because it’s alkyd makeup doesn’t require a topcoat!

Staging:

Pink bike from Retrospect with front rattan basket. Faux flowers are from Michaels and the green “blanket” is actually just a small piece of fabric from JoAnn’s that’s wrapped around a comforter to give the illusion of a full, fluffy blanket.

Choosing paint colors has never been so simple with peel-n-stick samples!

Gray Painted Desk with Floral Top

This old writing desk may be one of my favorite furniture makeovers. I purchased it at Habitat Restore at a really good price (these thrift stores are located nation wide). After a little prep work and a few gray coats of paint, I knew this desk needed a lovely contrast for under the glass top. Let’s just say, it came a long way from it’s bland before.

Paint Color:

As beautiful as this gray paint color is, I cannot recommend the paint company, in good faith. A close resemblance would be Peppercorn by WiseOwl. I topcoated with Trewax Carnauba Wax for a nice matte finish. While gray may not be an obvious color when considering spring painted furniture ideas, it’s amazing how bright paper, florals and hardware can create a subtle springy feel.

Hardware:

White porcelain knobs by Hickory Hardware. I also replaced the mortise lock with a classic gold lock from Furniture Knowledge.

Paper:

Staged with simple white hydrangeas, thrifted books, small table clock and a white cardigan straight from my closet.

Mint Painted Vintage Chest of Drawers with Mirror

This next project was actually donated to be my an old neighbor. I think his exact words were, “Want this old dresser? Probably not much you can do with it.”. It was solid wood and in good condition so I took on the challenge. Ha! With a little work and a fresh coat of paint… would you look at the completely new look now! I even considered tossing the old mirror, but I just love the classic look of the finished piece.

Paint Color:

This beautiful minty color is another color by the company I just cannot mention due to some ethical issues. Sorry! But a close match would be Sea Salt by Wise Owl. I topcoated with water-based Varathane polyurethane in Satin which has a slight sheen that I love.

Hardware:

How lucky that this piece had all the original hardware? I just polished it up with a little Bar Keeper’s Friend and fine steel wool. I’ve linked some similar bail pulls and knobs below.

Staging:

Books turned with the spines turned away are some of my favorite staging items. They can add as much height as you need. The wooden beads are also a go-to staging items to add an organic shape to the mix.

White Painted Dresser with Colorful Scallop Interior Drawers

spring painted furniture ideas. white painted dresser with scallops

This Broyhill dresser was yet another commission piece for a friend’s nursery. She used it as a dresser growing up and now it lives in her son’s room. How special! This DIY furniture makeover just took some white paint, new hardware and a little imagination for the interior drawers. Painted furniture with scallops may be my new favorite thing.

Paint Color:

Dresser body painted in Perfect White by Melange in their ONE line. The colorful scallops are all custom mixes with left over paints I had in my workshop.

The top was sanded down to raw wood and paint washed with the color Iced Mocha by Sherwin Williams. Check out this video for tips on paint washing.

Hardware:

These rattan knobs are such a sweet detail that ring a little softer than a hard metal.

Staging:

Since this piece was designed for a nursery, I kept the staging kid friendly with some kiddo outfits from Target hung on an accordion hook rail and a simple succulent on a stack of Chatbooks.

Purple Painted Nightstands with White Washed Top

spring painted furniture ideas purple painted nightstands.

These purple painted side tables were definitely spring inspired. At the thrift store, you can almost always find a single end table, but finding a matching set is a little tougher. So when my boyfriend’s parents generously donated these pine nightstands for a furniture makeover, I was thrilled.

Paint Color:

Purple is always a fun, trending color for spring time. Chartres is a discontinued color by Melange, but they still have some other beautiful purple paint colors to choose from. In a dipped and stripped design I painted the bottom and inside cubbies purple. For the top third, I white washed with Miniwax White Wash after sanding down to raw wood. Here is a video of me whitewashing this set and giving some basic whitewash instructions.

Hardware:

Ceramic white starburst knobs from Amazon were the perfect hardware to compliment the softness of the whitewash and add just a touch of sparkle.

Staging:

I kept the staging simple on this set with white patterned pillows, line drawings and two small succulents to compliment the purple twins. (I’ve linked same or similar items below).

Light Blue Painted Tall Chest of Drawers

spring painted furniture ideas. light blue painted chest of drawers

When it comes to Henry Link chest of drawers, I always seem to think that light blue is a great idea. This particular piece is hand painted, but do you see any brush stokes…? Didn’t think so 😉 Check out my post on How to Paint with No Brush Strokes.

Paint Color:

Tall dresser is painted in Queens Court by Paint Couture which is a beautiful baby blue perfect for a spring furniture makeover.

Hardware:

I won the original hardware lottery on this beauty. I had all but one pull and my friend Meg over at Fig and Poppy just happened to have an extra from a previous project. Hoping one day it will pay off, for me too, to be a hardware hoarder!

Staging:

For a classic spring look I incorporated some chinoiserie vases, blue striped pillow to coordinate and, my favorite, hydrangeas. (Similar items linked below)

In conclusion, spring is the perfect time to update your furniture and bring some new energy into your home. It’s an inexpensive way to take your own furniture and create a unique piece. Refreshing your furniture is a great way to give old pieces new life and is so much better for the environment than going out and constantly buying new furniture. I’m hoping this post inspired you with some spring painted furniture ideas. So, get creative, have fun, and enjoy your fresh new space!
