I don’t know if you’ve heard, but burgundy painted rooms are anticipated to be a major trend in the year 2024. I have to pat myself on the back for this prediction, because I have had a maroon paint swatch painted on my guest bathroom wall for about six months now. My desire to color drench the tiny powder room deep red now feels justified, despite all of the naysayers who say “it’s too loud”… “The space is too small for a dark, bold color”… Blah blah blah.
If only they could read this blog and see my vision of elegance, I think they would finally understand. I’ve come across so many glamorous colors in my research for the best brownish red paint color! It makes the decision tough…
But in this blog post I narrowed down favorite brownish red paint colors that I have come across in my “perfect red paint colors” hunt. Hopefully, together we can help find the right shade for my little bathroom space. I also want to prove to all the doubters that you aren’t stuck with lighter shades in smaller spaces. You CAN and SHOULD consider using dark colors even in the tightest and darkest of rooms. Let’s drive to it…
Disclaimer – For best results, be sure to try out the actual paint colors on your wall before buying multiple gallons. We know all know, colors look a little different in every space and can vary greatly in different lighting.
Reference Red by Farrow & Ball
How striking is this red dining room using Reference Red? I love how they also painted the hutch on the back wall the same color red as the walls creating a real focal point. Dining rooms are great places to use a powerful color like red for a highly sophisticated vibe. Pairing this bold red with a colorful area rug, patterned upholstered seats and varying wood tones was the perfect choice to create an eclectic look here.
Chestnut by Benjamin Moore
For me, this deep red bedroom designed and executed by Style It Pretty Home was a jaw dropper. The way she complimented the rich color with an earthy cedar plank ceiling and a variety of fabrics in bold patterns was simply STUNNING! Hats off to her for not only starting bold with the walls, but carrying that boldness throughout the entire design for a huge impact.
Chestnut by BM looks to be a great choice for a middle of the road red hue – not too cherry apple red, not too brown, and not too purpley.
Vintage by Claire paint
If you want to stick with a true red paint then perhaps you’ll want to snag a peel and stick sample of Vintage by Claire paint. This would be a stunning color for a front door or cozy interior room. Little Joy Market used it in this coat closet which is simply adorable.
Rookwood Dark Red by Sherwin Williams
If you’re wanting to flirt with purpley darker browns then Rookwood is definitely worth a sample can. The richness of this color is just so good! It really pulls a lot of different colors – in some spots it looks maroon, others have a more violet glow but overall, I love the drama!
Book Room Red by Farrow & Ball
If you like the idea of red earth tones Book Room Red might be the pick for you! It’s a bit softer with some burnt orange undertones, but still with such dramatic depth (Depth is what, I think, really sets Farrow and Ball colors apart).
I love how this color has a bit of a dusty red feel to it. In this little desk nook the color feels historic and regal, but I wouldn’t be afraid to pair a color like this with contemporary decor for a more modern look, if that’s your personal style.
Fading Twilight by Benjamin Moore
Another great choice for an earthy tone red is Fading Twilight by BM. It’s absolutely dreamy in Chris Loves Julia’s previous music room paired with boucle chairs and the wood tone piano. The way she color drenched the space just goes to show you that bold, rich paints aren’t just meant to be used in small doses like on an accent wall. Don’t be afraid to go all in!
Polished Mahogany by Sherwin Williams
This bathroom is a great example of how brownish red can work in a contemporary setting. Polished Mahogany leans the most brown of all the colors I’m sharing here, but with plenty of red pigment. Even if it comes off brown in something lighting, I don’t hate it! We’ll need a separate blog post on the best brown paint colors, but I mean, have you ever searched for a dark brown color Pinterest board? …. Check mine out and I will rest my case.
PINTEREST BOARDS
The painted vanity paired with metallic wallpaper was super bold choice for this little powder room. But I just love how it feels like a warm hug in the small space.
Deep Reddish Brown by Farrow & Ball
If you’re wanting a red that teeters on the brown tones boarder, Deep Reddish brown by Farrow & Ball might make it to the top of your list. It is simply elegant!
What brownish red paint is right for you?
Whether you prefer a classic, traditional look or a modern, eclectic vibe, deep red can easily be integrated into your design vision. Pair it with neutral tones for a more modern, transitional look or combine it with bold patterns for a more daring and eclectic approach. Don’t limit yourself to thinking about the rustic red classically used in country houses… think deep and moody!
Perhaps you play it safe by using it as just an accent color, but I encourage you to dive in and really commit once you find your favorite red paint color. Whether it’s your home’s exterior or cozy family room… let’s embrace this fun trend and include red somewhere in our homes this year!
Hopefully this list of brownish red paint colors has helped you narrow down your selection… I know it certainly helped me! I’m really hoping for an extraordinary response from my guests when you finally see my vision of a red bathroom come to life.
