Your front door is the first thing that people see when they visit and it can say a lot about your personality and the vibe of your entire home. It sets the tone for what people expect to see when stepping foot into your house. Feels like a big decision, right? (Or maybe I’m just an over thinker). In this post I’ll explore the best front door colors for a yellow house.
I really want my entrance to be inviting and classic. I mean, who doesn’t want their guests to feel drawn into their home? But not only does it have to be welcoming with a nod to some traditional details, but I want them to feel like they are getting a peek into the style of my home when they walk up to my front door. Think of the front porch as a home decor teaser.
If you have a yellow house, like I do, there are a variety of front door color ideas that can be both welcoming and complimentary of yellow siding. We’ll eventually paint the entire exterior a different color, but for now we are taking baby steps to update our home’s exterior.
A full exterior paint job just isn’t in the budget for now. But with some creativity and paint, I’m confident we can give our front porch a dramatic refresh! With a freshly painted front door, some greenery and simple furniture I think we can accomplish quite a makeover just in time for the warm weather.
Just painting your front door is such an easy way to instantly boost your home’s curb appeal and overall look of your home. Here are my favorite classic front door colors! I’m sure you’ll find one that fits your personal style.
Disclaimer: I cannot confirm the exact paint colors used in these photos. However, using Sherwin Williams Color Snap tool I did provide you with my best guess as to what color (or similar color) was used.
Navy Blue
I think the first and obvious answer to what color compliments a yellow house exterior is navy! Navy blues and yellow are such a classic color combination. This color is bold, yet elegant and sophisticated. Depending on what door hardware you select, a navy front door can definitely appear more modern. But if mixed with classic details can look very traditional. A navy blue front door can also provide a beautiful contrast against a bright yellow house.
Orange
I’ll be honest, I’m most surprised by this one. I was on a long walk through my neighborhood when I spotted a light yellow home with a bold orange front door. While it didn’t have quite as much picture perfect home curb appeal as this photo from HGTV Magazine, the orange door was a surprising, but welcoming fresh pop of color. If you want a really bright a cheery front door, then orange may be the perfect front door color for you.
Teal
Into these bold colors for your front door? Teal is another fun and playful color that can create a welcoming vibe for your home. This color is great option for homeowners who want to add a pop of color to their yellow house. Teal, to my surprise, really compliments yellow siding. Teal would be a fantastic front door color for yellow house especially if going for a beachy or coastal vibe.
Green
The more photos of find of yellow houses with adorable front door colors the more I consider not painting the house white like I have always planned. How adorable is this dark green front door? What a great choice for the overall color scheme. My best color guess is Blue Peacock by Sherwin Williams. I love how the green door complements the yellow siding so nicely, but in a way that kind of blends in with the natural greenery. That’s one thing I love about green – it still feels like a fun pop of color, but in a less showy kind of way because it still feels natural. A yellow house with green door is just effortlessly beautiful.
Baby Blue
Are you seeing a bit of a trend so far? Blue front doors go so well with yellow siding. Blue and yellow are complementary colors on the color wheel, which means that they are opposite each other and tend to create a lovely contrast when used together.
Compared to the first navy example, this lighter shade of blue offer a more subtle, soothing contrast. Again, very classic, especially when some traditional elements, like the ferns in urns, are incorporated like in the photo below.
Mint
Mint is a soft and refreshing color that can really cozy up a front porch space. I love how this springy color is broke up by the white trim from the yellow exterior. This color is perfect for front door color on a yellow home if you are after a cottagey look. A little greenery like ivy and natural elements like the brick in this photo from Pretty Hand Girl would be icing on the cake!
Red
Continuing with the question, “What color should the front door be on a yellow house”, this answer was a little less obvious to me. I would have never thought of a bright red door!
Red is a bold and vibrant color that can make a statement. As surprised I am that I love this color, it’s actually fairly classic for a yellow painted home. It adds a nice pop of color, without looking too modern or noisy. A red front door can create a striking contrast against a yellow house, making your home stand out in the neighborhood.
Stained Wood
If you have a yellow house and want to keep the entrance really classic, a stained wood front door is never a wrong answer. This natural color provides warmth and coziness. I love the contrast against the clean white trim. I can’t imaging anyone not feeling right at home when walking up to a door like this from Homenish. There is something so craftman-like about a natural wood front door. It really does create a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
In conclusion, choosing the right front door paint color for your yellow house is essential to creating a welcoming and inviting atmosphere. If your style is more of a neutral color and want to stick with a black front door, gray front door or white front door… you do you. But for me, I want more of a bold statement! Whether you choose a classic stained wood or something a little more adventurous, these colors can add a touch of personality and charm to your home’s exterior. Remember, the front door is the gateway to your home, and choosing the right color can make all the difference.
I’m now full of inspiration and ready to go purchase some paint to get started on my little porch refresh. What about you? What color would you pick for the front door color of yellow house?
